Geek of the Week: Neil deGrasse Tyson, Perpetua Fancourt

Welcome to "Geek of the Week"; here we honor one Muggle geek and one Wizard geek who embody Ravenclaw spirit...
when they succeed, they soar, and when they fail, they fail spectacularly!

Neil deGrasse Tyson (b. 1958)
"For me, I am driven by two main philosophies: know more today about the world than I knew yesterday and lessen the suffering of others. You'd be surprised how far that gets you."

If you liked having Pluto as a planet, sorry: Neil deGrasse Tyson said too bad, so sad in 2006.  That's some kinda power, so it shouldn't surprise you that Tyson, an unabashed Isaac Newton fanboy, is one of the most respected astrophysicists today.  In case you were wondering, his areas of expertise are stellar formation, evolution, cosmology, and galactic astronomy... like, wow, right?

As a noted scientific interpreter, Tyson has has multiple appearances on several popular television programs (The Daily Show, the Colbert Report, Jeopardy, etc.) in addition to hosting shows in various media formats (writing books, on radio and podcasts, on television, now YouTube -- that's right, he's going to be on the Nerdist Channel).  Need more geek cred?  He's got a rage comic meme floating around.  Thanks, internet!

Perpetua Fancourt (1900 - 1991)

After attending Hogwarts as an illustrious Ravenclaw (SOAR!), Perpetua Fancourt rose to the top of her field as a celebrated astronomer.  Not content with poring over moon charts, Fancourt invented the lunascope to advance her study of moon phases.
