Geek of the Week: Sophie Aldred
Here we honor Muggle geeks who embody Ravenclaw spirit...
when they succeed, they soar, and when they fail, they fail spectacularly!
Sophie Aldred (b. 1962)
"When I was allowed to wear Doc Martens and not scream, it was a complete breath of fresh air for me."
**brought to you by a request from akasha111182**
As Ace, she was the Doctor's companion, saving the universe with a baseball bat. As Tom, she has a Doctor as her sidekick, saving Treetopolis. Does Sophie Aldred get some of the geekiest jobs ever? I submit that she does, and it's awesome.
Aldred is into musicals, voiceover work, Time Lords, and writing books. Have I mentioned Doctor Who enough?-- she's going to be in the 50th Anniversary episode!
Find out more about Sophie Aldred on Wikipedia.

Lots of Pie!
Alright, fellow 'Claws. It's mid-July and I have a bunch of pie for you. :)
So as you can see, we're a bit behind on Classwork, Gryffindor is rocking Detention, it's rather neck-in-neck for Phoenix Missions, and we're tight with Hufflepuff in OWL submissions. It's crunch time, my friends. Let's craft like the wind!

Advanced Studies as of June 30th
Hello splendid 'Claws! As many of you know, Advanced Studies is where we really shine. I crunched some numbers and came up with a pretty pie graph for all of you showing where we stand as of June 30th. (This includes NEWT 50% and 75% milestones as well as OWL 50% milestones.)
Talk about rocking it! There are still a lot of Advanced Studies points to earn between 250 points for completed NEWTs, 125 points for completed OWLs, 25 points for Phoenix Missions that reach 25%, and 100 points for completed Phoenix Missions. Even so, we're doing really well and I am confident that Ravenclaw will end strong in Advanced Studies once again.
As a friendly reminder, Phoenix Missions are due by July 21st and OWLs and NEWTs are due by the end of the month.
SOAR RAVENCLAW!!!

Headmistress Challenge Analyzed
Ravenclaw was well represented in the Headmistress Challenge this term with a total of 76 participants. Go us!
Our highest earner was nightrae who earned 52 points for her adventures in cooking, athletics (seriously, check out this crazy post), social, and artistic.
Both Stormmoon and eiseldora earned 51 points. Stormmoon entered portfolios for athletics, artistic, organization, and ecology (what a transformation!). Eiseldora entered portolios for artistic, cooking, and social (sweet costumes!) as well as organization and ecology.
Six 'Claws earned 50 points: Alrischa, Anisa, Elekanahmen, Jessdhill, Omeletsmom, and ThroughThe Looking.
Congrats to all our high earners and congrats to all 'Claws who participated! Way to earn us a solid second place. :)

May and June Classwork Pie
Hello everyone! It's been awhile since we've had pie, hasn't it? Let's take a look at where we stand, classwork-wise. (This is final grades including bonus points.)
So we aren't getting creamed but we are a wee bit behind everyone else. If you been watching other events, it certainly appears that Hufflepuff is in it to win it this term. Personally, if it's not us, I'd want it to be them that wins the House Cup. They're due for a term, don't you think?
Also, I'd like remind everyone that the Ravenclaw theme this term is, "Eclipse Yourself." We're trying to be our best as opposed to being the best. So swing on by the Moonpaths thread and encourage your fellow 'Claw as we all strive to be our best. Cheers!

Geek of the Week: Neil Shubin
Here we honor Muggle geeks who embody Ravenclaw spirit...
when they succeed, they soar, and when they fail, they fail spectacularly!
Neil Shubin (b. 1960)
“The world is filled with puzzles, all kinds of interesting questions and it's our challenge to figure them out. It's not just like this static file cabinet of things that human beings know. It's ever expanding.”
Paleontologist in the Hogwarts house! Shubin famously discovered tiktaalik roseae, a 375 million years old fossil fish... it's a no-longer-missing link, you guys. The author of "Your Inner Fish" and "The Universe Within" is a former Provost of the fantastically awesome Field Museum, because that's where evolutionary biologists hang out for fun.
Right now Shubin's cooling his heels at UChicago in the Department of Organismal Biology and Anatomy. He goes hiking and fly-fishing on occasion, but he's so geeky, finding info on hobbies took a lot of digging! #explorationpun
