Quick Quidditch Match 4 Wrap-Up

Ahoy, mighty Ravenclaws!

Match 4 was a swift one over the long Hogsmeade Weekend, and had us all shopping for end-of-term finery. It was a rather close match, with goals ranging between 89 and 96 in the four houses.
Ravenclaw rocked the pitch with 89 goals!
Slytherin added another for 90 goals!
Gryffindor came roaring in with 95 goals!
Hufflepuff found their fancy duds and pulled through with 96 goals!

Of our 89 goals for this match, 24 Ravenclaws were un-squadded while they went shopping in Hogsmeade. The remaining 65 goals were tallied in our inter-house squad duel. The Ravenclaw Quidditch Squad report for Match 4:

The Curling Squad brought 14 goals to the team!
The Snowboard Squad had 15 goals to add to the Ravenclaw effort!
The Luge Squad slid in with 17 goals for Ravenclaw!
The Bobsleigh Squad brought it home with 19 goals!

Well done, dragon Ravenclaws! (These tasty information pies were again created by PurplePigwidgeon. Many thanks, PPW!)

Match 5 has us back at the Quidditch pitch with the fiber, and this time we're talking self-care. Starting today and running through March 25, we have a whole month for this challenge! And a challenge it might be, for those crafters who are used to making things for others – because this time, you get to make something for yourself! That means no gifts, no charity or none of “what the Ministry insists upon”. Non-Rav crafts ARE accepted, so please use that to your advantage! There are 25 base points available per goal, plus yardage points and awesomeness points. Score one for Ravenclaw, but more importantly, for yourself. Rock on, Ravenclaws!

Stop by the Ravenclaw Quidditch Team thread if you need assistance. Our Quidditch team is always ready to help, and happy to cheer loud and proud for all Ravenclaws.

Winter Quidditch Match 3 roundup

Soar, Ravenclaw! Did you have a good Match 3?

Match 3 gave Cup-seekers the opportunity to slim down using or creating lightweight yarns (fingering or smaller!) or to bulk up using or creating more robust yarns (bulky or larger!).

Slightly fewer people participated in Match 3 than previously, but a boatload of goals were still scored across the board. There were only 19 goals separating first and fourth places, in terms of number of goals scored. That is amazing!

Gryffindor roared into first with 97 goals.
Hufflepuff rallied with 88 goals.
Slytherin crept up on the badgers with their 82 goals.
Ravenclaw rounded out the scoring with 78 goals.

Of our 78 goals for this match, 17 Ravenclaws soared solo (well, they remain unattached to a squad). The remaining 61 goals were tallied in our inter-house squad duel. The Ravenclaw Quidditch Squad report for Match 3:
The Luge Squad brought 18 goals to the table!
The Snowboard Squad and Bobsleigh Squad had 15 goals each!
The Curling Squad zoomed in with 13 goals!

These illustrative pies were created by PurplePigwidgeon. Many thanks, PPW!

Quidditch Match 4 is a very short event, running just Friday-Sunday, Feb. 16-19. It is a non-crafting match, and the details will not be announced ahead of time. Look for the Match 4 thread to open on February 16. Awesomeness bonus points apply, however yardage bonus points are not in play.
Stop by the Ravenclaw Quidditch Team thread if you need assistance or ideas once the Match 4 details are announced. Our Quidditch team is always ready to help, and happy to cheer loud and proud for all Ravenclaws.

Winter Quidditch Match 2 is a wrap!

There were very similar levels of participation across the four houses in Match 2. The final tally of goals is as follows:
Gryffindor scored 100 goals.
Slytherin had 97 goals.
Ravenclaw had 90 goals,
and Hufflepuff scored 87 goals.

Of our 90 goals for this match, 69 scorers are members of squads while 21 Ravenclaws are soaring solo but strong. The Ravenclaw Quidditch Squad report for Match 2:
The Luge Squad scored 19 goals!
The Curling Squad and SnowBoard Squad each had 17 goals to their respective names.
The Bobsleigh Squad brought everything home with 16 goals.

These fantastic and illustrative pies were created by PurplePigwidgeon. Many thanks, PPW!

Looking ahead, Quidditch Match 3 kicks off in just a few days! It starts Tuesday, January 30, and runs through Thursday, February 8. Awesomeness bonus points apply here (no yardage bonus this time), so remember to make the prompt work for you! The name of the game: bulk up or slim down. Basic guidelines are as follows:
  1. Bulk up by crafting with or spinning bulky weight yarn or thicker.
  2. Slim down by crafting with or spinning fingering weight yarn or thinner.
There are 22 base points on offer, as well as those bonus points I mentioned before. Non-Ravelry crafts are not accepted for this match. Quidditch Match 2 is not far off, now. It starts January 14 and runs through January 23. Yardage and awesomeness bonus points apply here, so make the prompt work for you! The name of the game: learn something new. Basic guidelines are as follows:
  1. Craft something that uses or incorporates a new technique or craft that you have not previously attempted before. This can be a new-to-you stitch, technique, or even a totally new craft.
  2. Craft something using a technique, skill, or craft that you haven't done in over a year. Hone those rusty skills!
There are 22 base points on offer, as well as those bonus points I mentioned before. Non-Ravelry crafts are also accepted, if they fit the prompt. Please visit the Match 2 thread if you have further questions, or stop by the Ravenclaw Quidditch Team thread if you need assistance or ideas.

From the Desk of the Spreadsheet Sorceresses: A Look Back at Spring 2017

NEWTs are on the move and OWL swatching is in full swing-- but let's take a moment, shall we, to reflect on Spring 2017:
Ravenclaw's astonishing victory in honor of our outgoing Head of House and Head Girl, PickleMommy and CathyCake...

Double Cups For the PickleCake!!

We earned about 58% of our 81,840 points in classes, with over quarter of the total earned through Advanced Studies, and the remainder from Quidditch and the HMC.

We've proven time and again that class participation and Advanced Studies are good for points; I am personally very proud of the effort we put forth in winning the Quidditch Cup this term-- can we do it again?  We look forward to more Quidditch glory under the new leadership of HoH Bacs and HG Gwenschweitzer!

From the Desk of the Spreadsheet Sorceresses: Mid-term Update!

We are about halfway through the term, and it's shaping up to be another exciting one!  Ravenclaw is off to a great start thanks to all the time and effort each and every Tower-member is putting in to their excellent crafting.

As usual, 'Claws are pouring it on in Advanced Studies.  It's still early, with just over two weeks to turn in your OWL 50% or NEWT 75%, but the points are already coming in!  And of course, Order Missions are underway, but still shrouded in secrecy.  But the early reports have Ravenclaw with a strong showing.  Still, with Gryffindor claiming the most NEWTs, and Slytherin getting the most NEWTs to 50%, a lot could change by the end of this month!  So keep those submissions coming, 'Claws!

Ravenclaw also rocked May classes, thanks to the Prefects' Raven-clad challenge, class blitzes, Flight of the First, etc.!

Don't forget that the June class blitz is set for DADA on June 27th -- find a partner for that bonus and get ready!  And there's still time to get that June detention badge in honor of Madeleine Vionnet.  Just get your Detention project turned in by June 22!

And finally, Quidditch!  This, I believe, is where the excitement is most palpable!  Will this be the term that Ravenclaw reclaims the Quidditch Cup?  It has been many terms since we've hoisted that trophy, and it's very, very close this term!  But this is the most promising start we've had in a while!

All in all, it is a great start for the Tower.  Of course, with about half the term to go and many points still to be awarded, it's anyone's term!  Let's keep on going strong #ForthePickleCake!

From the Desk of the Spreadsheet Sorceresses: Stats Update!

As we head into the home stretch, you are probably wondering how Ravenclaw is doing.  The short answer: well, but it's still very close!!

In classes, Ravenclaws have pulled into a slim lead.

In Advanced Studies, Ravenclaws normally shine, and this term is no different.  But the other houses are close behind!

Overall, it's anyone's game!  We have Quidditch Match 3 starting today!  Order Missions are currently being accepted and they can arrive any time through the 26th!  Let's finish strong and SOAR!!

From the Desk of the Spreadsheet Sorceresses: October Pie!

November classes are in full swing, the Order of the Phoenix Missions are due on Saturday, and our Headmistress has challenged us twice over... sounds like a time for PIE!

All October final grades have been posted and we've squeaked by with the lead for the month:
That's some pretty pie, to be sure!  November classes are very much in play, even after our Safe Handling Beaver Moon blitz (can we finally catch that werewolf?!), so One More Class will always help in these final weeks!

The Billywigs on the pitch for Quidditch Match 3 have been cleared out and we had an admirable showing:
Quidditch Match 4 is accepting up to two projects -- no yardage bonuses in play, so small projects can pack a punch! -- for one last chance to get to the pitch and support your squad.

Advanced Studies is going to be one to watch closely; NEWT and OWL completions have been eerily quiet for all Houses.  Fingers crossed for a Ravenclaw-patented late surge, and our OWL 50% turn-ins could not be beat!
Phoenix Missions are in flux-- return by this Saturday and no later, Agents!

Right exactly now, we have a slight lead in total points, but the fate of the term truly will be in its final moments!  C'mon 'Claws!  It's time for Beast Mode like never before!!  #ClawsOut4BeastMode

From the Desk of the Spreadsheet Sorceresses: Early October Stats!

Fall term is off to a great start, and it is shaping up to be a really close contest!  You may be wondering: how are Ravenclaws doing?  Your Tower Spreadsheet Sorceresses have some answers!

We have been looking for Fantastic Beasts in the Prefects' Challenge for just over a month now, and we've been finding them in classrooms, advanced studies testing rooms, and on the quidditch pitch.  In September, Ravenclaws had particular success searching the classrooms.  (Note: This report excludes Grooming and Detention, which had not yet posted scores at the time of this writing.)

However, as you can see, it's still a very tight race in the classroom.  Can you do One More Class?  Every bit helps!  And don't forget that we're blitzing Healing class on October 16!

Out on the Quidditch pitch, 'Claws have also been working hard.  This is where we bookish types usually falter, and though there is room for improvement here, we are holding our own!
Can you help your squad to victory, all while finding more Fantastic Beasts?  Match 3 starts October 16!

Ravenclaws love their Advanced Studies, and we again are showing it with many fantastic proposals.  OWL 50% submissions are flying in, and Order Missions are secretly taking shape.  NEWT students have already earned points with their 50% turn-ins, and while there are no 75% submissions yet, you know they're coming!  In terms of potential, Ravenclaws have it in spades for Advanced Studies.  Of course, so do the other houses!
So let's show those other houses that we're a force to be reckoned with by maintaining our historically high completion rates!

Overall, it's really anyone's term right now.  Less than a point per student separates the first and second place houses, and only about 20 points per student separates first from fourth.  It's going to be a real nail-biter, and every point counts!
In summary, SOAR RAVENCLAW!!!

House Cup Champions Deserve Pie!

A whole term's worth of delicious stats is so satisfying, don't you think?  One minute you're crafting One More Class right before the deadline, and the next thing you know,

RAVENCLAW WINS THE HOUSE CUP

FOR A THIRD TERM IN A ROW!!

This threepeat has some understandably impressive data to celebrate...
Here's the breakdown of our 73,580 hard-earned points!
Our May class total approached our entire Spring's Advanced Studies total, which is staggering as a true testament to our start-of-term spirit!  HMC even garnered a larger chunk of points than usual, thanks to our daring Headmistress and her mystery craft-along cowls Challenge.

Ravenclaw has become known for our last-minute turn-ins, but it's not (really) procrastination, it's our high bonus-points projects soaring in for a landing, full of yardage and awesome...

For more fantastic stats, feel free to visit this delightful post from the End of Term Feast.

We had a truly terrific term--
the Ravenclaw Tour de Force cannot be denied!!!

Thursday Stats: June Pie!

Happy Thursday! The June scores are in and that means it's time for pie. Delicious, number based pie.

Once again, Ravenclaw soared when it came to classes and detention. It's always good to see a nice big blue slice.

It's not just about the pie, though. We also have some Advanced Studies bars. We had the most OWL 50% turn-ins and the highest number of June Advanced Studies points overall. It's good momentum as all three kinds of Advanced Studies come to a close this month.

Just two and a half weeks to go!

Thursday Stats: A Look Back at Last Term

We're already more than a third of the way through May! While we're continuing on our journey for Ravenclaw glory, let's also take a look back at our victorious winter term. We won by more than 6,000 points. Here's the breakdown of all of our 81,995 points served up as delicious pie!

Almost a third of our points came from Order missions, OWLs, and NEWTs but well over half came from classes, which have always been the backbone of the HPKCHC. After all, we all agree to do at least one class per month when we sign up to sort. Everything else is gravy.

While gravy is delicious, I'm now thinking about it on pie. That's not so tasty. Maybe that pie up there is a shepherd's pie.

Since classes made up such a large portion of our points, let's take a closer look at the class points for all four houses.

Every house got more than 40% of their class points from bonus points. We can't predict exactly how to earn these important points since they come from a mystery yardage bonus formula and the individual discretion of the professors for each class. What we do know, though, is that we should always report yardage when possible. A great story can help and pictures can make all the difference. Cute kids and animals often seem to add an extra bump.

In case my newly engaged sister stumbles upon this post, I promise that any enthusiasm I show when you mention eventually having kids is because I really am looking forward to being an aunt. It has nothing to do with looking for a cute prop for my Cup turn-ins. That's just a bonus.

For more of last term's stats, see this post in the End of Term Feast.
