Geek(s) of the Week: The Arctic Circle
This week, we're doing something a bit unusual. Instead of profiling an individual, we are highlighting an organization, The Arctic Circle.
The Arctic Circle offers annual residencies aboard a scientific sailing vessel specially outfitted to withstand the rigors of sailing the Arctic seas.
The explorers on the vessel are a unique group of scientists, artists, filmmakers, educators, architects and writers. They sail the waters in and around the Svalbard archipelago, exploring and creating as they go.
Expedition participants take what they have learned and seen and collaborate on projects, exhibitions, and educational programs once the journey is over. They use their experiences to bridge the gap between science and art and address important issues facing our planet.
This organization reminds me of Ravenclaw because it brings together people of many different talents and interests. Like Ravenclaws, the participants in The Arctic Circle teach each other about their different areas of expertise, collaborate on projects, and encourage each other to develop their creativity. We come from many different places and have a variety of viewpoints, but we all learn from each other and challenge each other to new heights of creativity in our crafting. The Arctic Circle does the same thing, and it doesn't get much more Ravenclaw than that!
