Geek of the Week: Mary Roach

Here we honor Muggle geeks who embody Ravenclaw spirit...
when they succeed, they soar, and when they fail, they fail spectacularly!

Mary Roach (1959)

"Yes, the money could be better spent on Earth. But would it? Since when has money saved by government redlining been spent on education and cancer research? It is always squandered. Let's squander some on Mars. Let's go out and play."

Happy birthday, Mary Roach!

Mary is a self-described "gateway drug to science," writing books on topics that some avoid -- space, cadavers, sex (which, oddly, also features cadavers) -- to make them accessible to the general reading population.  She's given a TED talk, she's gotten interviewed by a MythBuster, and she's not done yet: her newest work covers the alimentary canal, AKA your food tube.
