This Week In Ravenclaw

To infinity and beyond!

Greetings! IAmACuttlefish reporting on the latest madness in the Tower. Come over here, but watch your step! Hope you don't mind a lot of rubble, or the Alot of Rubble, for that matter.

It all started when MightyGoodYarn wandered into the Lab with a machine. 'Claws everywhere set down their firstie victims test subjects classmates and rushed over to investigate.

At first, the machine merely played a nice tune, but thanks to FatesLady and her flying potion, it sprouted wings, and the mayhem began in earnest.

Soprano1 ended up sporting a colorful eye after looking through the trick eyepiece of the machine, now revealed to be a telescope. At least she got a good look at the Moon.

Just then, the telescope broke free of its red wax restraints (See, 'Claws? You can't solve all your problems with red wax. We should've used duct tape!) and headed for the Moon, taking MightyGoodYarn and soprano1 along for the ride!

HunterOfRavenclaw hopped on his broom and gave chase, with yours truly following hot on his heels. Soon, Volkat joined us in the air on a metal phoenix of her own construction. Catdragon piloted an airship with various Ravenclaws on board, and all of us were equipped with communication devices from Yasmatazz.

At last, we all caught up to the errant telescope and rescued MGY, S1, and FatesLady, who had somehow ended up clinging to the machine in all the fracas. Alas, this intrepid, magnificent, daring, brave, intelligent, quick-witted, fantabulous -- why are you looking at me like that? -- reporter fell asleep.

Luckily, nothing eventful happened during the night, and we decided to follow the telescope. After a close call with a flying chunk of moonstone, we collected some samples and headed back, just in time for term to begin.

With everyone back, safe and sound, it seemed like the adventure was over.

Or is it?

The NEWT Kids on the Block

Now that term has finally rolled into action, there can be no more applications for NEWT students. At least not till next off-term month.

But the Tower has naught to fear, for we have four brave and intrepid students who have studied, planned, dreamt, angsted and finally dared to embark on the treacherous final step of the Advanced Studies pyramid and submitted - and were approved - to deal with the arduous task of sitting for a NEWT badge!

I will be monitoring our valiant house-mates as they progress on the glorious journey of madness which is the combination of two OWLs. I will be reporting on the ups and downs of the path they are each wandering down.

Our intrepid NEWTers are Greenheron, Hopesclan, MightyGoodYarn and SFCorgi. Over the weeks I will be reporting on them in turn, presenting their plans and their progress - and who knows - perhaps I can convince them to allow me to interview them.

So stay tuned for the Wednesday updates on the blog!
