Monday Showcase: Spring NEWT Proposals

Break Month? What Break Month?!

Thirteen brave Ravenclaws are sitting their Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Test (NEWT) this term, potentially bringing in 5,850 points to the Tower! Soar!

Auora is NEWTing in DADA and Transfiguration with a Neat Ripple blanket (when crochet is not her primary craft) and practicing plying-on-the-go using a drop spindle.

catdragon is doing a sheep-to-shawl for a NEWT in Potions and Astronomy. This is Dixie, the alpaca selected for the honor after shearing:

Chrissyteenychan is knitting two adult sweaters and a pair of fingerless gloves inspired by Professor Sprout for a History of Magic and Herbology NEWT.

For a History of Magic and Muggle Studies NEWT, elekanahmen is knitting an entire ensemble inspired by Hogwarts faculty: a vest for Professor Flitwick, a shawl for Professor Trelawney, socks for Professor McGonagall, a sweater for Professor Sprout, and mitts for Professor Sinastra.

EvilMichelle is knitting a pullover, shawl, and socks for Muggle Studies and Transfiguration. The yarn, pictured below, will also be handdyed as part of the NEWT.

greenheron's NEWT in Ancient Runes and Herbology has the potential for some rather mad science, as it consists of a cabled armchair cover and a self-designed lamp shade.

Hreow is cabling away on two sweaters for DADA and Herbology.

indigoroses is knitting five garments (2 sweaters, 1 pair of socks, 1 hat, and 1 pair of fingerless gloves) for local fairs as a Muggle Studies and History of Magic NEWT. If you're a non-monogamous knitter looking to NEWT, check out the point system indigoroses has worked out.

PickleMommy is tackling the Lestrange Cloak as a Muggle Studies and Charms NEWT.

SarahAldersign is charting and knitting a nine-color fair isle cardigan (with steek!) for Ancient Runes and Transfiguration.

For History of Magic and DADA, Secrettrail is creating a series of knitted items based on the fairy tales of Charles Perrault.

SFcorgi is playing with color and tessellation with four projects using modular knitting for Arithmancy and Muggle Studies.

Tikabelle is making a floral invisibility cloak using the Galveston Shawl for DADA and Herbology. Get out your magnifying glass: this cloak is knit on size OO needles in cobweb weight yarn!

Good luck to all of our fabulous Ravenclaw NEWTlings! Soar!

Last Week in the Common Room: Sir Hat Speaks!

Tension in English vs. Continental knitting was discussed, as were the merits of selvedge stitches.

Lots of pretty, pretty swatches as Prjonfesta is in full swing!  (And thus our queues grow.)

Synesthesia is fascinating!

Housing, housing markets, and the addictive nature of Zillow. Yes, Zillow.

What's better than My Little Pony? My Little Cephalapod, of course!

A certain 'Claw had the excellent idea to plan work trips around locations with 'Claw contingents. Many geographic regions lobbied to be chosen.

Hail! Storms! Math! America's Next Top Model!

Jess the cat escaped but came home again.  Jess the HOH may also wish to escape (from work at least) but hasn't made a break for it yet.

Electronic medical records allow some of us to adult without having to talk on the phone: win-win!

Sorting sorting sorting!!  Much excitement! Introductions! Happy things! Fried rice!  Chatty chatty chatty (a million posts is a lot, guys; I didn't mean it literally).

NASCAT! Ballroom dancing! Someone is on cria watch and will hopefully share pics when they arrive.

Claws are planning already for Tour de Fleece.

Ramen and onigiri were craved and raved about.

The new Common Room needed chickens. Who knew?

Much discussion of Captain America, Tony Stark, and how movies have ruined all men for some Tower residents.

The Fishpocalypse is upon us. And has a few different forms, apparently. Danger! Danger!
