Quidditch Match 1 Results, Stats by Dorm Edition!

As you all have probably seen by now, we fought hard in the first Quidditch match but were firmly trounced by all three other Houses. But as we see it here at the Blog Stats Reporter's desk this term, that doesn't mean we don't have winners here in Ravenclaw anyway! I decided it would be fun to compare how all of us did, broken out by dorm.

First I just took straight number of turn-ins and got a percentage participation by dorm. Those Seventh Years really took the cake on this one; 80% of them made a goal! The Firsties and Fourth Years nearly tied for second, with the Firsties squeezing just a hair into the lead.

Just making a goal isn't everything, though, so I wanted to see how many of us really went for it and scored extra bonus points. I took the total points for each dorm and divided it by the number of people in the dorm, and the Fourth Years really showed their colors! Despite being third in participation, they still managed to push into the lead in pointsiness!

Of course it is no surprise, given those numbers, that if you look at how many points each dorm averaged per turn-in, the Fourths really shine! So while of course every goal counts, we've got to give it to the Fourth Years for really giving it their all.

I know how much Ravenclaws tend to love our stats, so I thought I would give you the chart where I calculated all these numbers as well, so you could see the exact percentages.

Don't forget that Quidditch Match 2 is going on right now! You can win 25 base points for Ravenclaw, as well as awesomeness and yardage bonus, by turning in an item for charity, something that will help someone else, or something that will help protect someone else. The deadline is not quite two weeks away, on October 17th. Now is the time to craft for charity, or to work on protecting yours friends and family from the cold and work on your holiday crafting. Soar Ravenclaw!

Quidditch Match 1 Preview!

ravquiddy.jpg

Hang onto your helmets, because Quidditch Match 1 is about to begin!

It's almost time for all of you scholar-athletes to don your flying uniforms and take to the pitch, because Quidditch Match 1 will begin at midnight POT at the beginning of Thursday, September 7.  We won the Quidditch Cup last term, and we are hungry to do it again, so let's storm the pitch and show the other Houses that we mean business.

This first match of the season focuses on tips for outdoor living.  Your project can be something to help you survive in the countryside, OR something to help you tame or restrain a magical creatures that might try to invade your outdoor space.  Remember the power of the *Engorgio* charm - a blanket square can become a tent, a hexipuff can become a trap for doxies.

22 base points - short timeframe September 7 - 17 - YES yardage bonus - YES awesomeness bonus - YES non-rav crafts

See the Ravenclaw Quidditch Team thread for all the details, a wonderful bundle of pattern ideas, and advice on quidditch strategy.

There are 22 base points here, so a small project will have a bigger impact if turned in for quidditch rather than for a class.

The competition between squads is very close.  Although the number of goals is identical for each squad, base point differentials have created a very small variation in total base points:

Match 2 is coming up soon!  There is no yardage bonus for this match, so even the smallest project will earn at least 15 points for Ravenclaw!  The Quidditch team has put together a fantastic bundle of metallic themed patterns if you are looking for some inspiration.  There are bonus points available for awesomeness and for linking your goals to Salazar Slytherin, so let your imagination run wild!

The match starts on Tuesday.  Do it for the PickleCake!

Thursday Stats -- Quidditch Round 1

Our first Quidditch match of the season was fun, fast, and furious, as we learned about Puffskeins and how to attract them.  Team Slytherin paid homage to Ravenclaw's past House Cup victories with their campaign to "pickle the points."  We responded with our own campaign to honor our glorious PickleCake Empire.

The end of the match was a true nail-biter, with quaffles flying from left and right, above and below.  We finished in a very strong 3rd place, with only seven goals separating 1st and 3rd.

Here is the informal final tally:

Our new Quidditch Squad system was a rousing success, with much friendly rivalry among the Abraxans, Aethonans, Granians, and Thestrals.  The Four Flying Horse squads finished in a virtual tie:

And, the best news of all is that with 42% of the House joining a squad, we harvested a Horklump. Furthermore, with 55% of the House scoring, we harvested a Puffskein!!!  Well done, all!

Give three cheers for the awesome Ravenclaw Quidditch Team!!!!!  Can't wait to see what we come up with for Match 2 - Hinkypunks - starting on 20 September.

Thank you to Quidditch Stats Beater greenheron for that exciting update!

Mid-Week Quidditch!

The Quidditch pitch is humming with all of the wonderful triage mediwizardry taking place!  39 Ravenclaw students have handed in their work so far, and there is time left through January 9 to get yours in.

So far, we have turned in 20 examples of cleaning and making bandages, 22 amazing mended items, and 34 projects have been frogged in the name of mediScience.

Look at this stellar example of mending mediwizardry done by our illustrious Head of House, picklemommy - simply wonderful!

Way to Soar, Ravenclaw!  Let's see more scores out there, and keep that Quidditch cup where it belongs!
