Firstie Friday: September Stats Edition

We're almost halfway through the second month of term so it's time to share a bit about how our Firsties handled their first Sorted month in the Tower. Here are some interesting stats highlighting our fabulous Firsties' performance for the month of September.

Our First Years had a fantastically prolific first month of term, with 47 class submissions between the 11 of them. The three most popular classes were Charms, Horcruxes and Hallows which each had 7 submissions.

Besides classes, September also contained the first Quidditch match of the term, and the first round of the Headmistress Challenge. Our Firsties had a fantastic showing in both with 8 participants in each extracurricular activity.

September class and extracurricular submissions

Special feats:

We had two Firsties submit something to all 8 classes, Detention, Quiddy Match 1 and HMC Round 1. Congrats to 5Bobbins and qtinki for that fantastic feat.

Lynn4MK was nominated for a Charms trophy for her lovely barberpole spin.

As part of her 8 class submissions, 5Bobbins wove a story through 5 classes, and was nominated for a Wand Lore trophy for her darling little Wood dragon.

October brings with it another Quidditch match, 2 more rounds of HMC and OWL 50% submissions, so there's a pretty good chance there will be plenty more excitement from our current crop of Firsties. Stay tuned to this column for more updates on our SOARing little Eagles!

From the Desk of the Head of House: NEW Badges!

Many apologies for having missed posting last week.  Somewhere along the line I lost a whole day somehow.  Hopefully I get it back, because I need all of my days...

Ahem.

I wanted to take a moment to applaud Ravenclaw for an excellent turnout in classes last month.  As we all know, we are asked to turn in at least one class per month during the Term.  Real Life happens but we have generally been really good about doing at least that minimum.  We have done as well as we have overall the past several terms in part because of this.  No turn-in means no points, so having as few people as possible turning in absolutely *nothing* is important.

At the same time, we have many people who feel like they are expected to turn in a full set of six (or even more!) classes.  This is not an expectation, although if you have the time and energy, we will cheer you on as you dodge the Mallet of Sanity ;)

And so this week, I want to recognize two groups of people: those who successfully dodged the Mallet and turned in six or more classes and those who for one reason or another stuck to only one class for September.

First up, our One and Done students!

AFeskimo, AKnittingStory, Alfiriel, Aquariae, Bacs (oh hey, that's me!), Bobbilicious, bookwormdjibouti, celizabethhill, Cre8vladyb, CymraesCrochet, Cyprienne, deetyblue, DJackson, FilleDeFil, freply, frithuswith, Gipcsoul, greenheron, gwenschweitzer, hafknits, IggyLinda, Illuviel, Isilsartari, K8macq, knittingvortex, Knittinqueen, KnitWit685, knotnknit, ladylou, LASH, LindseyLuz, Lindzabeth, LladyLlama, llim, lovetosnorkel, mooseloon, nerdyinplaid, NoNeinNyet, Pickyknitter75, PoodleParade, psycheandcalypso, purplemb13, red, SarahTheEntwife, secrettrail, senkatnovo, Tanyakins, TindraTiernen, toolizzforyou, Volkat, Yarnfreak75, zillalatte, and zisch304

That's 53 people!  Almost a third of the House stuck with a single turn-in in September.  Those points add up, so never ever feel bad about not turning in more classes.

And now we have the other end of the spectrum, those who dodged the Mallet of Sanity and turned in six or more classes.

6- bandbabe, Caranam, Coukii, dixiehellcat, elekanahmen, fricknfrack, Gardenmama, Hopesclan, knitsNhikes, Lavenderblueskies, LeahandtheDragon, Lynn4MK, nightgigjo, nightrae, ObliviatheFirst, PickleMommy, rondaletts, S2five, Scrappinrobyn, ShanBonan, softnshiny, Sonnenbluenimp, specialKknits, tatsrus, TheBoyWhoKnits, TheEvilPretty1, Twillow, wendebular, WillowGlade
7- JessiaSott, Mootzee, SaskiaBr, Topfrog, TwistedStitcherFGE, winemakerssister
8- 5Bobbins, bigsnakes, cn32, FeoragRuadh, gwennian, HelpfulKitten, MeshaMarie, qtinki, shadowfey

Something that will be interesting to see as the term progresses is how these lists change.  Sometimes the beginning of term has more turn-ins, sometimes the end has more.  With this term being the one leading up to the holiday season for many, it's entirely possible that there will be more people dodging the Mallet by the end.

Don't forget to take care of yourselves, see you next week!

Quidditch Match 2 -- Mid-match update

ravquiddy.jpg

Ravenclaw Quidditch Team Needs to SOAR!

With just about a week to go in Match 2, we Ravenclaws have our work cut out for us.  We are currently holding steady in 4th place, though we know there are some high yardage projects still in the works.

CHART 1.1.jpg

Right now, the Godric’s Hollow and Grimmaud Place squads are tied for first place, Shell Cottage is trailing behind, and The Burrow has yet to appear on the scoreboard:

It’s time for big-hearted Ravenclaws to do some charity crafting or crafting to protect someone else and earn BIG points!  There will be 25 base points for even the smallest project that fits the prompt.  Blanket square anyone?  How about a preemie hat?

Yardage and awesomeness bonus are both available.  Non-rav crafts that fit the prompt will be accepted as well, though yardage bonus will not apply. 25 base points for a non-rav project is a pretty good deal!

Do come visit the Ravenclaw Quidditch thread for information, ideas, cheers, and encouragement.  Let's show the world that we care!  Get those hooks and needles busy to help others, and you will feel great too. Match 2 ends at midnight POT at the end of October 17.

Thank you to greeneheron and Neetsey for that update on Match 2! SOAR RAVENCLAW!
