Interview with our Headmistress!

Today Ravenclaw's, I have an extra special treat for you!

I was lucky enough to be invited up to our lovely Headmistress' office for a chat and a cup of tea! I think actually, she really wanted to talk about the dung bomb explotion on the 5th floor, which I may or may not have caused...

I managed to distract her from telling me off, with my offer of some chocolate biscuits!

Hi!

Thanks for taking the time to talk to us.

Really, it's getting me to be quiet that's the trick.

We’ve just past the halfway mark of your first term as Headmistress, how have you found it so far?

Well, for me December and January went by way too fast and I feel like I've been catching up with myself ever since.  But, I think I finally made it.

Following tradition, you have set up your own Headmistress’ challenge. Can you tell us a little about it? Any projects already caught your eye?

It hasn't been up all that long so people are still cooking up some awesome projects.  I wanted to make a challenge that would entice people to push themselves a little beyond classwork but not quite to OWL level, so a 6 week challenge where a WIP could be accepted or you could claim yardage points seemed to fit the bill.  I think people seemed to like it, so that's always a plus.

We all love a little trip down memory lane, what do you remember about your first year?

Oh my, well.  My first term was the term that Leesy, my Head of House, started having a Badger of the Day.  The first day of the first term I was BotD and I was completely caught off guard.  I flunked my first OWL, my post count skyrocketed, and I was totally, completely in love with the House Cup.  I found the group in June of '09 and I remember reading a little bit of a thread, clicking the back button to the group page to join the group, and then devouring the class and OWL threads.  It was all so wonderful!

Lots of your ravatars feature quotes from AVPM and AVPS, I take it you’re a fan? Who’s your favourite character? You got a favourite song too?! XD

Ahahahaha, yes, guilty as charged.  I must say I prefer the original to the sequel, and although I find so much of it to be utterly brilliant, my very favorite character is Professor Quirrell.  I didn't think much of him in the HP canon, but in the musical the bromance between Quirrell and Lord Voldemort is just great.

Now, everyone has been talking about the fun they had at Hogsmeade! What did you think of our school wide outing? Success?

Oh my, it was a good time wasn't it?  I know I had a lot of fun.  GazeboGal and the legions of student volunteers did an absolutely wonderful job.

Did you have a favourite shop? You seemed to be everywhere!

Good, my scheme to be everywhere works!  Hmmm.  I don't think I can choose a favorite.  Maybe the special edition of Diagon Alley, since it's the shop that keeps on giving and this merino spinning fiber is luscious....

We Ravenclaws love facts and knowledge! Got any interesting trivia for us?

Hmmm.  My husband is the real trivia nut between us.  You may not know that we met in college in South Carolina, where I grew up, and we are both geologists by training.  I have been a stay-at-home parent for a couple years though with our two little boys.

We also love pictures! Can you show us something you’ve been working on recently?

Of course!  I have a weekly WIP Wednesday on my blog where I photograph everything I've touched in the last week that isn't yet finished, and this is the latest picture.

Upper left, a blanket I'm seaming.  Continuing clockwise around the edge, the pink/green thing is my CoMC OWL that I need to frog back to 50%.  I'm making a crochet square sampler on the right, slowly turning in squares for classes here and there. (Part of that blanket was on a stop sign last weekend for Transfiguration's yarn bombing assignment.) The furry pink scarf is for a charity called Handmade Especially For You, which gets donations of yarn and they send out kits with the fur pre-placed all wound into a ball, and all you do is get to work with some chunky needles.  The pink and brown striped tube is about half of a Hallowed Hands fingerless glove, which is a Deathly Hallows Part 1 inspired pattern by Hufflepuff's Tiggersjp.  Finally, the green blob is a fingering weight version of Lehmus-huivi that is part of a challenge in another Ravelry group.

Have you seen this terms OWL’s? Some pretty amazing projects, i think you’ll agree.

I love the OWLs - they are one of my very favorite parts of the House Cup.  I love reading through the proposal thread and seeing what everybody is plotting!  So many ideas, so much queue expansion.

St Mungo’s Express is new this term, how’s that going? Lots of very hard working people from the looks of it!

It looks to be going pretty well!  Of course, everyone on that crazy train is too busy to chat much about how busy they are, so it is hard to tell.  I'm hoping for a badge myself, and I've got 12 classes so far!

Am I right in saying you’re a Hufflepuff? If you had to describe the house cup houses, what would you say?

I am indeed a Hufflepuff!  I don't know what to say about the houses - I wish that I could be in all of them and I do jump in now and then.  They really are all great places to be and they prove that we all have a little of each house within us.

Lastly, any other exciting plans or tit-bits you would like to tantalise us with, as to what we might see in the next term?

Hmmm..... well, if you promise not to tell anyone.... next term we will all definitely need yarn, either at the beginning of our projects or by making it.  So be sure to plan around that!

And to end in Ravenclaw tradition,

5 Happy Things!

Oh yes, of course!

1) I get to go to the post office today and mail a swap package.  Not incredibly exciting for me, but getting a package is wonderful!

2) This morning's coffee is exceptionally tasty.

3) The vacuum cleaner is a marvelous invention.

4) After living in the house of sick all of February, I think we're all getting healthy again.

5) I'm planning to start a spinning project today, and I LOVE spinning!

Thanks Ali, this was fun! Come by anytime!

As I leave I see Needlesnswiffers enjoying another chocolate biscuit. Just as I reach the door she calls out.

"Oh and Ali, I have it on good authority that the 5th floor corridor is usually only patrolled on a Wednesday evening at 6pm. It never gets any attention apart from that. Be sure to spread the message around would you?"

I've gotta say, if this term so far is anything to go by, we are in for a lot of fun in the future!

Huge Love to Needlesnswiffers, Fabulous Headmistress and Hufflepuff Extraordinaire! And to be quite honest...
